Fatma Oussaifi

I am a dancer, yoga practitioner and actress. I have been trained in different disciplines such as classical ballet, modern jazz, latin and standard dance among others; but I have focused my profession on Argentine Tango, performing and teaching . While following different dance training courses, I also worked as a model for photo shoot and advertising films.

From the beginning of my tango practice, I was struck by the great aesthetic and graphic potential of this dance and by the wide range of emotions which emerges from it. Nourished by my experience in the field of 'modelling' and advertising, it is thus naturally that I turned to the camera and inscribed tango in a cinematographic proposal through video-art. 

I had the chance to collaborate with great video artists and directors by placing the dance at the centre of a dramaturgy that brought out the relational side and the link that takes place in the dance and between the partners. We thus co-wrote different short scripts where the tango was the pretext for a link between the characters.

When I was offered a protagonist role in a feature film, and even if it was very far from the dance and tango world ,i felt pretty confident. I actually immediately felt at ease in front of the camera and the experience of acting was intuitive and inspiring for me.

"Ashkal", the first feature film in which I had the chance to play the lead role, was selected for the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival 2022 , among other prestigious festivals such as the  Tronto's TIFF and the FIFF in Namur. It is scheduled for release in the cinemas in France on the 25th of January.
